Rachel Pedersen was using social media to bring customers to her hairdressing chair, but never really imagined it would turn into a full-time business of its own.

One of her hairdressing clients owned a popular restaurant chain, but was struggling with online marketing and social media. Rachel offered to help this “small chicken restaurant,” which turned out to be Mrs. Winners, a popular fast food franchise in the Southeast.

While that chance encounter may not be repeatable, Rachel put herself in the position to succeed by having confidence in her abilities and saying “yes!” Years later, the restaurant remains her largest client and Rachel developed an interesting way of connecting with new customers via LinkedIn, which she shares in this episode.

Today her little social media management side hustle is a 6-figure business and she has even built a training program to help other people follow in her footsteps.

  1. I am glad I listened to this. I have waited for the longest to switch my LinkedIn profile to my new life as a personal finance writer/influencer. Database consulting sounds so legit, but at some point I have to make the transition and “burn the bridge.” I need to make it known who I am and what I do now. Thanks for this interview.

  3. I love your podcast, Nick! I started a freelance medical writing business recently and am re-building my LinkedIn profile to optimize it for finding clients. I never really used it for much except for finding my friends and colleagues in the past. But now I’m going to give this podcast a listen and see what actionable tips I can use for improving my LinkedIn profile further!
