Melissa Fassel Dunn

Melissa Fassel Dunn from has built a thriving — and profitable — online community serving residents in her small town.

The interesting part is that she didn’t start her Facebook group or website with the goal of making money.

She did so to solve a pain point she was experiencing finding information about services in her town of Milton, a suburb of Boston.

“I needed information about kindergarten, I needed information about a plumber, an electrician, and I felt like there wasn’t a go-to place for any of that.

“So, I thought, I’m going to start a group, I’m going to add some of my friends and we can exchange information with one another,” Melissa told me.

She started Milton Neighbors, a Facebook group for residents of Milton to share information and recommend local services.

That was in 2013, today the group has more than 11,000 members and is almost a 6-figure business.

Tune in to hear how Melissa built up her group, how she keeps people engaged, her monetization methods, and how you can replicate her model with a Facebook group of your own in just about any niche.

  1. Hey Nick, I have been subscribed for almost 2 years now. I truly enjoy listening to podcasts of all types but there are 3 that I actually look forward to and experience a sense of excitement when I see a new episode has posted. The Side Hustle Show is one of those three. The top things I enjoy, and hopefully this will provide you some value and insight, first, it’s simple yet engaging. The guests and stories are on a level that anyone involved with or thinking of getting started in small small business is able to obtain. All of the millionaire and billionaire stories are interesting but the reality is I will probably never play in that arena. It seems no matter what the focus of your episode, I’m able to apply and relate to the guest and the topic. The show is not over produced and stays on point with thoughtful input from you but without taking over or dominating the guest. Everything about the show encourages me to take action through small steps that over time generate big impacts. Overall you do a really good job creating a very helpful and insightful show that at least for me has become a positive stream of actionable information and growth for my small business, life, and ultimately my family. I should have offered this thank you before now. I know you have a tremendous amount of heart and soul that is invested into this art and I greatly appreciate it. I look forward to each and every episode. I have no idea how I can help you but as a 2 year long dedicated fan if there is anything I can do for you please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you!!!

  2. The most of the concern is that the Facebook is faster provided messages to people know what is hiding So that I want people to respect the Facebook in that not all news here is fake but also some are important news that do help others.
